Infants School and Junior School Pastoral Care

Macarthur recognises the special bond that occurs between the class teacher, the child and their parents. In light of this, in the Infants School and Junior School the caring element, as well as the formal presentation of the Pastoral Care Programme, is delivered through the class teacher.

The BOUNCE BACK! Programme is used as a basis for Pastoral Care in the Infants School and Junior School. This programme helps to highlight the Christian values of integrity, co-operation, respect, acceptance, friendliness and support and reinforces the learning using practical examples, role plays and activities. Year 6 student leaders are involved in guiding younger students in the learning about and implementing the BOUNCE BACK! Resilience programme.

From time to time issues arise that require a greater level of intervention. In cases such as this the matter is referred to the relevant Head of School. The Head of School may refer the matter to the Chaplain and in ongoing cases the matter will be referred to the Deputy Headmaster. The Head of School is also responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Pastoral Care Programme to all students. This is achieved by imbedding the Pastoral Care units of work within the broader curriculum. The Class Teacher is considered to be the primary pastoral carer for students in their class and is the first point of contact with parents.
