Middle School and Senior School Pastoral Care
Each student in the Middle
School or Senior School is allocated a Tutor Group. This is a group of
between 15 and 20 students from the one academic cohort in the same
House. Each Tutor Group has a Tutor responsible for them and they meet
daily in a variety of forms through the week. Chapels and Assemblies as
well as individual Tutor Groups times are provided for in this
structure. Each year group has a Head of Year responsible for the general oversight of Pastoral Care within the cohort, including discipline and student welfare. A students who is a concern to the Tutor, or any teacher for that matter, is referred to the Head of Year for intervention and support. The Head of Year is also responsible for the delivery of the Pastoral Care Programme.
From time to time
issues arise that require a greater level of intervention. In cases
such as this the Head of Year will refer the matter to the relevant
Head of School. The Head of School may refer the matter to the Chaplain
and in ongoing cases the matter will be referred to the Deputy
Headmaster. The Tutor is the primary pastoral carer for the students in
their group.
The Pastoral Care Programme in the Middle School and Senior School is delivered through the Tutor Group.
Pastoral Care at Macarthur is more than providing a safety net for students in crisis. While this is essential, the Macarthur approach is to build within students the ability to deal with the stresses when they arise. Developing this resilience is an essential element of educating any child so that they are able to positively contribute to society. The strategies taught and the manner of thinking which is encouraged are consistent with the Christian Faith and assists in developing the spiritual dimension of our students.
The Pastoral Care Programme is sequential and focusses upon a variety of issues facing students throughout their time at school. It aims to assists them to develop the knowledge and skills to cope and to provide appropriate support for their friends.
