Expectations of Students
Macarthur is a Transition to Year 12 school that aims to see as many students as possible achieve their God given potential in academic, sporting and co-curricular pursuits. Macarthur is a place that recognises and celebrates the genuine efforts of all its students. The tradition of Macarthur is to see as many students as possible matriculate to university.
This focus determines how we approach teaching and learning across the whole school. In any given year the greater percentage of our Year 12 students continue this tradition. Hence our curriculum has an academic rather than a vocational focus. Those of you who choose not to pursue a university course will find yourself well-equipped for the rigours of work or further education in other institutions of learning. Macarthur seeks to produce graduates with a desire for life-long learning and a determination to pursue their best.
At Macarthur we do not settle for minimum standards, but we encourage our teachers to add greater rigour to the Board of Studies courses you study. We try to bridge that large gap between Years 6 and 7 as well as Years 10 and 11 by lifting the bar of excellence across all grades. As we lift the bar, we give opportunity for you to set goals and rise to the occasion.
It is expected that every student entering Macarthur will pursue their studies to the best of their ability, taking full advantage of the educational opportunities they have available.
Achievement
Whether they are in Transition of Year 12, every student is able to achieve their personal best in class, in relating to others, in their efforts in sport and in their participation in co-curricular activities. Achievement is not only about being the best - it is about improvement, achievement of goals and dedicated effort.Macarthur uses a system of awards to acknowledge the many achievements of our students. From small certificates presented in the classroom to major awards presented at the Annual Speech and Awards Night the Merit System seeks to encourage improvement and acknowledge achievement in all its form.
