Community Service

The School motto is 'Enter to Learn Go out to Serve' highlights the commitment that is expected of Macarthur Anglican School students to their community. It is the model of Christian service provide by Jesus which underpins this programme.

Community Service placements allow students to see both the need for community service within their local area and also the value of community service for both the people being served and for themselves. All Year 11 students are involved in a Community Service Programme.

Through a planned and appropriate community service programme, students have the opportunity to:

• be actively involved in gaining first hand knowledge about volunteer work

• identify various avenues of entry into the world of service

• clarify and evaluate abilities and interests in relation to volunteer work

• develop social and communication skills in a community environment

• enhance self-esteem and confidence

Students are expected to complete 25 hours of Community Service during Summer, Autumn and/or Winter Terms. It is expected that students will find placements at non-profit organisations. Students who are involved in the Peer Support Programme will be credited with 10 hours of service. Students who are not involved in the Peer Support Programme are encouraged to complete their service during the Community Service Week each year.
