The Health Centre

Macarthur has a well equipped Health Centre, a bright and friendly place where students are able to seek assistance from a qualified nursing sister, Sister Jacqualyn Cameron. Centrally located in the Administration Centre, the Health Centre cares for the health and wellbeing of students and staff.

Each day Sister Cameron dispenses parent-approved medication to students. This medication must be handed in to the Health Centre at the commencement of the day and not carried in the student's bag.

Sister Cameron also administers first aid following accidents or misadventures. She follows up with parents regarding reported injuries and maintains the student health records.

Sister Cameron should be notified by parents of any special health needs their child may have. She will ensure that appropriate treatment is available, notify teachers, the Cafeteria and the canteen of these special needs and ensure that staff are trained to deal with these health issues.

It is a school policy that first aid kits are taken on all excursions, tours and to sporting events. The Sister maintains these kits. She also arranges First Aid training for staff members.

Prior to overseas visits and tours Sister Cameron administers relevant vaccinations. She also liaises with the Department of Health regarding the administration of vaccination programmes.

From time to time, Sister Cameron will notify parents of specific health issues related to their children either through the fortnightly newsletter or by contacting individual parents directly.
