Sporting Achievements

Each year students achieve significant success in sport. In 2008 these included:

Claire Koski (Year 12) was Captain of the CIS Girls Cricket team that won the Lord Tavernor's Shield in 2008. She was named School Girl Cricketer of the Year.

John Keane (Year 9) has been selected as a member of the NSW Rugby Union Talent Identification Programme for Young Players in Western Sydney. This selection could result in John becoming a NSW representative in this sport.

Lachlan Roberts (Year 5) was selected into the CIS Primary Boys Football team.

Jordan Parker (Year 6) was selected into the CIS Primary Girls Hockey team.

Nine members of the Snowsports Team qualified for State Interschools after they performed well at the Regional Interschools competition. Edward Cosier was our most successful snowsports competitor in 2008, coming second overall in his snowboard events in the Redlands Cup. At the NSW Interschools, Edward enjoyed our best results and competed in the snowboarding events at the Australian Interschools, finishing fourteenth fastest in Australia for Snowboard Giant Slalom and eighteenth fastest in Snowboard Cross. 

Jacinda Webster (Year 10) was recently named NSW Rookie Youth Champion for Western Riding.

Ellie Beggs (Year 8) has been selected for the Sydney South West Academy of Sport for Softball.

Callum Masjuk
(Year 2) has been selected in the NSW Metropolitan South West Novice Squad for swimming.

Jonathan Bekes (Year 11) represented Macarthur at the AICES Golf Tournament.

Riley Stephenson (Year 4) competed in the Kenpo 5.0 Martial Arts Oceania Championships 2008, earning a first place for forms, a second place for sets and third place for self-defence in the 8-11 years mixed division.
Macarthur students competed at the AICES, CIS and NSW All-Schools Athletics Carnival bringing home many gold and silver medals for their efforts.


Music and Performance Achievements

There are a wide range of performance ensembles available to students of all ages at Macarthur. Both ensembles and individual young musicians have many opportunities to perform each year at concerts and recitals.

The Macarthur  Pipes and Drums were established in 2008 and presented their first performance at Speech Night, 2008.

The Macarthur Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band are supported by the establishment of the Preparatory Band and Preparatory Orchestra in 2008.  Students from Year 5 have the opportunity to develop their performance skills and move into the major performance ensembles.

During 2008 three Macarthur students were selected for roles with Opera Australia. Jayden Sierra (Year 9), Jonathan Nash-Daly (Year 8) and Justice Massaad (Year 6) have all performed in chorus roles.

Emily Zagorac (Year 4) was selected for a NIDA production of Midsummer Nights Dream.

Alexandra Ede (Year 10) achieved A+ in her Grade 7 AMEB violin examination. She was selected, with a small number of other students, to play the violin in an orchestra of professional musicians from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Strings Orchestra which performed at the ninth Annual Christian Spiritual Night and accompanied the Diocese Choir and the Sefein Choir in a performance at the Hills Centre.

The Macarthur Concert Band competed at several Eisteddfods during 2008, gaining many awards including first place in the Macarthur District Eisteddfod.

During 2008 Macarthur staged two wonderful musicals - students from Year 7 to 11 staged Oliver! and the Junior School students presented Alice in WonderlandJr. These two musicals featured many talented students. The Junior School performers had the opportunity to perform at the JSHAA Concert in the Sydney Town Hall.
