Study at Macarthur

Homework and Study

An essential element of success in the senior years is the commitment each student must show to their homework and study. It is an expectation that students will spend 10-12 hours (Year 10), 12-15 hours (Year 11) or 15-18 hours (Year 12) in study each week outside the classroom. Teachers support students in their efforts through offering assistance outside the classroom, after school tuition, Senior Study Support Programme and through Champ Camp (Year 12). The importance of ethical study practices and the development of independent thinking skills is emphasised to students.

Assessment, Examinations and Reporting

During Year 11 and 12 students are assessed in each subject using a range of asessment items. An Assessment Calendar is published for each subject and issued to the students early in their Year 11 and Year 12 course. The guidelines for Assessment are published each year in the Macarthur Assessment Handbook

Examinations are an important element of the assessment programme for students in Year 11 and Year 12. Attention is given to developing examinations skills and time management.

Excellence in achievement can only occur in a caring and supportive environment. At Macarthur, Academic Care and Pastoral Care are closely linked and students are nurtured by their teachers, their tutors, the Head of Year and the Head of School as they face the rigors of senior schooling.
