Thailand Outreach

Since 2003 a team of students and staff from Macarthur have joined with a team from Pacific Academy, Vancouver to work in Thailand each year. During their 16 day mission the teams work on various charitable projects including the construction of beds for the Blue Skies Home, an orphanage for young children and painting the exterior walls of the McKeane Leprosy Hospital in Chiang Mai.

During their visit the team also teach at the Varee Chiang Mai School. The students prepare and deliver lessons in Mathematics, English, Biblical Studies, Design and Art in English to children from Year 3 to Year 6. They also organise Chapel Services and use drama and song to convey the message of the Christian Gospel to the children.

The remaining days of the Outreach are spent with the Hill Tribes in the northern villages of Thailand. The population of this region is made up of ethnic minority groups who have come to Thailand as refugees for Laos and Burma. Each village has a church and the students work alongside the local pastors in playing games with the children and teaching them about dental hygiene. They also give these children gifts including basic hygiene needs, clothing and other necessities which their families are unable to afford.
